16 Divine Darshans of Unique Shivlingas

1. Amarnath Mandir, Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir

A Hindu Shrine located in the Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir, Amarnath Temple is a cave temple situated at an altitude of 3,888 m and at a distance of 141 km from Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir.

2. Kedarnath Mandir, Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand

Situated on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river, Kedarnath Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Roughly 1200 years old temple, it is open to the general public for worshipping between April (Akshaya Tritiya) and November (Kartik Purnima).

3. Bijli Mahadev Mandir, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

Bijli Mahadev Mandir is a temple situated in the Kashawri village in the Kullu district of the Indian State of Himachal Pradesh. Situated at an altitude of about 2,460m in the Kullu Valley, this temple is one of the ancient temples of India dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Every 12 years, the Shiv lingam is struck by lightning which causes the lingam to break into pieces. The priest then wraps the broken lingam with butter and after a few days, the lingam becomes as it was.

4. Tilbhandeshwar Mahadev Mandir, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

Shri Tilbhandheshwar Mahadev Mandir, situated in the city of Varanasi is one of the oldest and most renowned temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Constructed in the 18th century, it is believed to have emerged itself and it increases in size after a particular period.

5. Kathgarh Mahadev Mandir, Indora, Himachal Pradesh

Situated in the Kangara district of the Indian State of Himachal Pradesh, Kathgarh Mahadev Mandir is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva where he is worshipped in the form of lingam. The Shiva lingam is separated naturally into two parts of different sizes.

The difference between these two parts is believed to increase and decrease with time.

6. Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Mandir, Nashik, Maharashtra

Shri Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Temple is a temple situated in the Trimbak town of Maharashtra where Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of lingam. Here, three lingas are present which symbolize the unique form of Lord Shiva. Each lingas represents Tridevas namely Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. The temple is located between three hills namely Brahmagiri, Nilagiri and Kalagiri.

7. Gauri Kedareshwar Mandir, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

One of the busiest ghats on the Ganga, the Kedar Ghat, can be identified by its red and white steps from a distance. Thousands come here each year to pay homage to the Gauri Kedareshwar temple. This can be reached via boat or through the narrow lanes of Bengali Tola.

This Shivling is divided into two parts. The half part represents Shivshakti, and half part Laxminarayana.

8. Sirsi Taluk, Uttara Kannada, Karnataka

Situated in the Sirsi taluka of the Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka, this town comprises of thousands of lingams residing on the rocks in the Shalmala river and its originating banks.

9. Vaijnath Mahadev Mandir, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Here, the lingam exists in an unique form as it is partially damaged. Despite being damaged, it is worshipped with high enthusiasm by the Shiva devotees.

10. Sapteshwar Mahadev Mandir, Sabarkantha, Gujarat

Situated in the Sabarkantha district of Gujarat, Sapteshwar Mahadev Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Here, Shiva is worshipped in the form of a lingam, with a continuous flow of water over the Shivling.

11. Bhuteshwarnath Mahadev Mandir, Gariaband, Chhattisgarh

Bhuteshwarnath Mahadev Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva situated in the Gariaband town of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is one of the biggest Shivling and believed to be increasing in size with each year.

12. Sangameshwar Mandir, Saswad, Maharashtra

Having deep roots in the Indian history, Sangameshwar Mandir is a hindu temple built by the Bajirao’s family in the Saswad town near Pune in the 1720s. This ancient temple is famous for having a bahumukhi shivling.

13. Somnath Beach, Gir Somnath, Gujarat

Situated in the Gir Somnath district of the Indian state of Gujarat, the home of one of the most popular jyotirlinga – Somnath Mahadev Mandir, Somnath Beach is famous for its shore, which comprises of 5 naturally occurring shivlingas that provides a positive energy from its aura.

14. Sri Endala Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh

Sri Endala Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is located at Ravivalasa Village in Tekkali Mandal, Srikakulam District in Andhra Pradesh. The primary deity worshipped in this shrine is is known as Sri Yandala Mallikarjuna Swamy. The deity is believed to be Swayambhu that has appeared on its own.

15. Siddheshwar Nath Temple, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh

Situated at an altitude of 5754 feet above sea level and inside the dense forest of Kardo, Siddeshwar Nath Temple is a Hindu temple situated in the Ziro town of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Every year thousands of pilgrims visit this temple to worship Lord Shiva, especially in the holy month of Sawan and in Shivratri.

16. Kailash Mansarovar, Tibet

Situated in the Western Himalayan Ranges of the Tibetan Autonomous Range, the 6675-m tall diamond-shaped Mount Kailash is one of the most sacred places for Hindus worldwide. Yatra to Kailash-Mansarovar in Tibet is through Uttarakhand, which provides a pathway to one of the holiest yatras in a Hindu’s life
