The Anjali mudra is one of the postures found in Indian classical dance, such as Bharatanatyam, and in yoga practise too. It is also found in Indian temple reliefs and sculpture in the mandapam, at doorways.The Anjali mudra is distinct from Namaste by being a non-verbal gesture, whereas Namaste can be stated with or without gesture. According to some scholars, Anjali mudra is slightly different from namaste. In Anjali Mudra the backs of the thumbs face the chest and are perpendicular to the other fingers, but in Namaskara mudra, the thumbs are aligned with the other fingers.The Natya Shastra describes it as a posture where the hands are folded together in a reverential state.
